Ramblings
Just some random thoughts on a bunch of different stuff. Spring has finally sprung around here and it's starting to get nice out. Translation, snow is sliding alot. Yikes, be careful out there. Been climbing a bit here and there. Still lots of good stuff up, just watch the sun and the big slopes that are sitting in the sun! Shelley and I went to Field yesterday, basically had the place to ourselves on a Sunday, big surpise but it was nice. Climbing is still great around there.
Did anybody watch the Canadian women play the US on Saturday at the World Curling Championship? Wow, what a poorly played last end by both teams. No big surprise that the Swedes won on Sunday, they were definately the cream of the crop this year. How bout that Stephen Ames at the Players Championship? Take that Tiger! Calgary boy does good. Okay, well he lives there now, so we can kind of claim him. How bout the fact that he might skip the Master's to go on holiday with his family(his wife battled lung cancer last year), now that guy has his priorities straight. Right on Stephen! Show those grumpy old guys in green jackets you don't want to be part of their stupid club until they start letting women join. I cheered for the Oilers last night, first time ever, pained me greatly, and the fools still let Colorado get a point. The Flames need to pick up the pace here a bit or they are going to find themselves in a nasty race for a playoff spot. Plus, it's better to go into the playoff's getting hot, than cooling. Duh, talk about stating the obvious eh?
Okay, what else? We watched Lord of War a few days back. Good flick. There is a scene in the film, where Niclolas Cage is sitting in front of a line of tanks. I was reading that these tanks were actually owned by an arms dealer and he let them use them for the film. They were later sold. This is one scary movie, that's all I'll say. Okay I'll say a bit more. It was really well done, good dialogue and a message that is very important. Too bad a Canadian company had to finance it to get it done. Way to go Lion's Gate!
Some market stuff for this week. Fed watch, boring unless they finally signal an end to the rate hikes, if that happens buy the US Banks. On the topic of banks, I think Royal has gotten a bit ahead of itself right now. Looks to me like people started buying because it is now trading post split. I'd probably look at TD until Royal comes down a bit. Some of the oil and gas names seem to be pretty lofty right now too, think names like CNQ, TLM, ECA or even the SPDR Energy units. Might be an okay short for the week. I'm kinda liking Apple for a trade here. Down to $60 from $86, trades at 32x earnings and the rumor is they might release a new product for their 30th anniversary which is on April 1. Anyhow, trade it back to $66 for a nice 10% return, maybe :)
