The Constant Gardner

Watched this flick last night, pretty good movie. Unlike most LeCarre books that get made to movies this one actually made sense by the end. Not a movie for all you happy ending people but I really enjoyed it. Thought the depiction of life in Africa was devastating, it really showed the value of human life there, or maybe lack thereof. Rachel Weiss, did a great job and I can see why she recieved the Oscar for that performance. I especially enjoyed her "lecture" at the lecture in the opening when she first meet's Ralph Fienes character. Drug companies take a hit in this one, how much of the truth is spoken here is anyone's guesss, but if even a little bit is true, than it's not a good thing. LeCarre has a history of writing facinating stories that don't always translate into really good movies. I think this is one of the better ones from a LeCarre book. Anyhow, I'll give if 4 out of 5 stars, if you like lots of explosions this one ain't for you, but if you like a tight plot with interesting characters, good dialoge and some great shots of Africa, check it out.

Shelley has this nasty bug, it's knocked her down for the last 4 days, and doesn't seem to be getting any better. There are some wierd bugs going around this winter. I really hope she starts feeling better soon.

Yesterday I climbed up the Stanley Headwall with Sean I, skiing was good and the climbing was really good. Still have some unfinished business up there, but I'll post about it when it's done. Looks really good though. I can't believe there are still new routes to do up there. What an amazing place, you get to go play up high and still come home and sleep in a comfy bed and snuggle with your honey at night.

Well that's about it for the first blog.

the director, Fernando Meirelles, also did Cidade de Deus / City of God, story about a Brasilian favela, if you liked Gardener you might be willing to put up with sub-titles to see this one, a look straight into the heart of a slum, qualified happy ending, five stars in my book
